This industry runs on acronyms. You should not need to know any of them to understand what Cultivar does, so here is every one we use.
Australia's category for controlled medicines, the ones the law tracks unit by unit. Morphine is Schedule 8. So is most medicinal cannabis.
A doctor's authority to supply a specific medicine to a specific patient. In Australia a patient cannot buy medicinal cannabis without one.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration, the federal medicines regulator. Suppliers report what they supplied to it every six months.
One production run of a product, with its own number. If anything is ever recalled, it is recalled by batch, which is why every unit is tracked by it.
The laboratory report for a batch showing its strength and that it is free of contaminants. It travels with the batch.
How much of the active ingredients a product contains, usually stated as a percentage or in milligrams per millilitre.
Splitting a limited batch across the dispensaries that want it, before it ships, instead of first come first served.
Where a patient collects their medicine. In Australia this is a pharmacy or a pharmacy-run dispensary, staffed by a pharmacist.
The business that holds stock from growers and supplies it to many dispensaries. Also called the supplier or sponsor in the regulations.
The licensed business that cultivates the plant and produces the finished product, and enters its batch and lab test first.
Growing, manufacturing and supplying medicinal cannabis each need a government licence. Cultivar records the licence details each organisation states; it does not check them with the regulator.
The running record of what came in, what went out and to whom, kept per batch. It is what an inspector asks to see.
